1. One Story That Leads to Jesus

Best for: Understanding the Bible’s unified story

This is a comprehensive 365-day Bible reading plan that walks you through Scripture chronologically, showing how every book points to Jesus. Before you get freaked out about it being a year long, there is something cool about this one…it is all supported by BibleProject’s high-quality videos that are for sure going to enhance your understanding. So commit to the entire Bible in a year, or however long it takes you!

2. Read Through the Gospels

Best for: Studying the life of Jesus

This is a 13 week reading plan that I put together for myself and friends. It focuses on just the four gospels and the life of Jesus. Why I like this one? The gospels are key to know and understanding Jesus and his teachings. Its simple and straight forward! I wrote a blog post about it here. But you can download the plan now and get started! PS I think this a great plan for new believers and teens because it has a lot of narrative in it that keep them interested and engaged with scripture.

3. Chronological Bible Reading Plan – Bible Gateway

Best for: Seeing the Bible’s timeline clearly

Did you know or realize that the Bible is not written in order? It is full of different style books, history, poetry, narrative, prophecy, etc. This means that the books you come to in the canonical Bible are not in order. This one-year Bible reading plan follows a chronological timeline of events. You will skip around just a little to gain what is happening in the grand meta story of the bible. You for sure will gain a better historical understanding of Scripture from Genesis through Revelation.

4. New Testament in a Year

Best for: Focusing on Jesus and the early church

If you want to soak up the life of Jesus and the church then take a year to read through the New Testament. You will read through the entire New Testament in 365 days, from Matthew to Revelation. A great choice for a daily devotion habit centered on Christ’s life and teachings. I think this would be a great idea to do as family or in a community of believers. Its the perfect daily sized chunks for beginners and even mature believers will soak up the New Testament this way.

5. M’Cheyne Bible Reading Plan

Best for: Daily Scripture variety

A time-tested plan that guides you through the Old Testament once, and the New Testament and Psalms twice per year. Offers readings from four parts of the Bible daily. This is for someone that wants a challenge. It is totally doable, but you will cover the entire Bible in year, and really get to soak in the New Testament and Psalms. The Scottish pastor Robert Murray M’Cheyne created this plan to encourage himself and his congregation to read the Bible consistently. It is broken into four parts to be able to do two parts with your family and two parts privately. I personally have never done this, but I know people that have and they love it. I’d love to know if you have done this one.

6. 260 Day Reading Plan

Best for: Busy believers and discipleship groups

This 260-day reading plan focuses on key foundational passages in Scripture. With only five readings per week, it’s ideal for accountability groups, church communities, or anyone with a full schedule. I love that its only 5 days a week because you can focus on other Scripture the other two days of the week if you are teaching and preparing to share with others. Speaking from someone that teaching the Bible regularly, its nice to have two days to digest the scripture you are teaching. And not to mention that it is guilt free if you miss a day!

7. Proverbs Monthly Plan – Bible Gateway

Best for: Gaining daily wisdom

A simple and timeless Bible reading plan—one chapter of Proverbs per day. Complete the entire book of Proverbs in one month. This plan doesn’t necessarily have a print out, but I did create a journal to accompany the reading that you can find at my shop below. This is habit I typically do once a year, as I often find myself in a season where the wisdom of Proverbs is needed!

8. Track Your Way Through the Bible

Best for: Curious, and new believers

This plan is fully in your hands! It’s how I first read through the Bible. To call it a plan is a stretch because truly it is just you checking off as you have read through the Bible. Maybe you’ve wanted to read Daniel and then get on into Revelation, this tracker helps you see what has been read and what is left to read. I love it for new believers as you can customize your plan by simply reading what you choose.

My only caveat is that I will always encourage you to pick one book of the Bible to get through before moving to the next. It keeps the content in its context and that is huge when aiming for understanding.

9. One Chapter a day 3 year plan

Best for: Getting a quick overview of the whole Bible

This is normally how I approach my personal study. I like to soak in one chapter, read the commentary in my study Bible, and then go to extra sources if I still need to gain understanding. It is a longer commitment taking you 3 years to read the entire Bible, but as you read slower I know you will gain so much understanding.

10. Reading the Bible in 2 Years

Best for: Slow and steady readers

This Bible reading plan encourages reading one to two chapters daily along with a Psalm or Proverbs four times to complete the Bible in two years—great for those wanting to reflect deeply on each passage. Its broken down into smaller portions so you will likely be finished reading in 5-8 minutes a day. That is great if your time is tight but you still want to commit to a plan.
